Abstract
On the basis of results of VCIOM national polls conducted in 2004-2009 the author analyzes attitudes of the Russians to various approaches to a national idea which is to unite the people, consolidate the society, and give the citizens of the country the idea of the perspective for the future. The following areas of the national idea are considered: politics; economy, market reforms; religion, the Russian Orthodoxy; the authorities; the Russian people as a transmitter of the special spiritual values; place of Russia in the world.
