- The text is an introduction to the publication of the opening lecture by well-known Dutch historian R. Decker "Long-term developments in autobiographical writing in the Netherlands since 1500". A brief description of the scholar's creative biography is presented as well as his role in the establishment of the research of autobiographical writings as an important and substantive area of historical researches.
