Abstract
The article analyzes the semiotic value of the monuments to the soldiers of law and order in the urban space. The analysis of more than 70 photos of the monuments to police and special forces members revealed that the monuments carry symbols representing power and order. The willingness of the police and special forces to protect the life, rights and freedoms of people at any cost is underlined by the very composition of the monuments. The sites are the focus of public attention. Various social practices are formed around these monuments, both official and informal, e.g. omens and popular beliefs.
