Abstract
The article considered the main stages and results of the evolution of international cooperation in the Mekong river basin, marked priority areas for further development and the associated risks (environmental, socio-economic, humanitarian, political and military), analyzed the communication strategies of extra-regional powers (conflicting and cooperative) and offered recommendations for enhancing the Russian participation in regional integration processes in the Greater Mekong area, taking into account national interests of the States in the region
