Abstract
The article deals with the humanistic philosophy of Ernst Bloch, a German philosopher of the XX century. Bloch put forward his concept of humanism, which raised the role of Man in the world to the status of a necessary principality of existence. Man recognizes the hidden features of the universe and turns them into reality through his activities. Thus, Man is a creative being, all the while creating something new. Man finds himself on the border between the past and the future. He is faced with dangers that are not yet known, are yet to arise. He is in a state of risk and uncertainty. The development of the world and of the man is not yet complete. The basic principles of Bloch's humanistic philosophy can be applied to the understanding of the typical situations of development and application of biomedical technologies. In particular, the following categories of Bloch's philosophical doctrine could be used: front, border, horizon, new and more. The legacy of Ernst Bloch is very relevant concerning the technological challenges of the XXI century.
