Abstract
The problem of text authorship is discussed. Who can be considered to be the text author: should it be a maker of the text senses, its notional component, or a creator of a signs pattern that makes the given text- Three concepts of authorship are identified depending on the approach to this question. Those are the archaic one, the classical one and the post-modernist concept. The contemporary post-modernist concept is represented by the idea of the death of the author by R. Barthes. The death of the author is considered both in a culturological perspective and in a semiothical one.
