Abstract

The author speculates on the origination and formation of Kiprenskiy's "personal myth" that implied noble descent of his "official" father. Several examples of his well-known "mystifications" demonstrate that those acts were not quite sporadic but were rather determined by those "myth", that formed the manner in which the artist dealt to both fellow-artists and "the high and mighties".
