Abstract
An article is devoted to Augustine's doctrine of music, its role and value in the process of formation of the Christian type personality. The article describes the links between the music and the time and the dialectics of the ideal and the material. The special attention is paid to treatises “Six Books About Music” and “Confession”. The analysis of ideas of music as of the dialectics of the temporary and the eternal, of discontinuity and continuous is presented in the perspective of the wholeness.
