Abstract
More than 1 million people from Russia and former Soviet Republics left for Israel following the fall of the Iron Curtain. The image of the country of the Exodus was highly negative while the image of the new fatherland was unreasonably idealistic, which made it hard for the immigrants to adapt to and get blended into the Israeli society. The view of Israel often changed for the worse, while the image of Russia is being gradually changed for the better, creating a paradoxical nostalgia for the "hungry Soviet childhood".
